The Boys’ Brigade is a Christian youth organisation for children and young people aged between five and 18 years old in the UK and Republic of Ireland. Although the organisation was originally created for boys, some groups allow girls to attend.
Sadly, like its counterpart, the Scout Association, people who wish to sexually abuse children have in the past volunteered at the Boys’ Brigade in order to access children. A number of its volunteer leaders have been convicted of sexual offences against young members of the Boys’ Brigade.
If you, or a loved one, have been sexually abused by a leader, volunteer or other official of the Boys’ Brigade, you may be entitled to compensation for the suffering. Get in touch with our experts to discuss your matter, call us on 0203 9252 301 or complete an online enquiry form.
It’s likely that a claim for compensation made against the Boys’ Brigade for abuse suffered as a child, however long ago it may have been, would be successful. Even if the abuse didn’t take place on premises where the Boys’ Brigade operated from or during a meeting of a group, we can help you. Provided the victim and the abuser came into first contact through the Boys’ Brigade it is possible to pursue a claim against the organisation.
A claim for compensation can be made against the abuser alone, although it’s often the case that the abuser will not have sufficient funds to support a compensation claim. If this is the case we can instead pursue the Boys’ Brigade for the compensation. The claim would be made on a vicarious liability basis, meaning the organisation will be liable to pay compensation for the abusive acts of an employee or volunteer.
Alternatively, or in addition to a vicarious liability claim, it may be possible to make a claim on the basis the Scouts was negligent. Whether this be in its processes and recruitment checks, or in its duty to protect the children in its care.
All of our claims against the Boys’ Brigade are made on a no win no fee basis, meaning you don’t pay us a penny, giving you one less thing to worry about. We only get paid when a claim is successful, and we get paid by the defendants, not you.
